Hard buttons

Using Cetus GPS for tracking or field data collection you will probably not have much time left for tapping around the Palm menus or writing grafitti input. You may also want to pack the Palm in a shock- or waterproof case which normally prevent the use of a stylus.

In order to avoid this problem all the major functions of Cetus GPS therefore have been assigned to the Palm hard buttons.

To make the use of hard buttons consistent each button has a main function assigned. Below is a list describing the functions assigned to the different buttons.

Datebook button
Pressing this button will take you to the next page in the Page menu.

Address book button
This button is not used.

Up and down button
These buttons work when viewing various selection lists. At the Navigage page they will cycle the views in the View menu. At the Position page they will scroll through the positions in the list.

Todo button
This button is only active when viewing the Track page. Pressing the button will toggle track start and stop.

Memo pad button
Go to the Position page to save a position. If you are viewing the Position page, pressing the button again saves the position and returns to the previous page.

Navigation button
The Palm Tungsten series have a five way navigation button instead of the up and down buttons. When pressing the up and down direction it behaves like the up and down buttons.

Pressing the right direction will take you to the next page in the Page menu. Pressing the left direction will take you to the previous page in the page menu.

When viewing the Position page the center select button will select the Goto feature. When viewing the Track page the center select button will toggle start and stop. When viewing a dialog the center select button will select the OK button.

If tracking is disabled, a long press on the center select button will quit Cetus GPS and return to Applications.

Email and Web buttons
The Palm Tungsten C has Email and Web buttons instead of Todo and Memo pad buttons. Here the Email button works like the Todo button and the Web button works like the Memo pad button.
